From January 8 2021, all persons entering Japan are obliged to submit a new coronavirus test certificate.

 

 

 

 

In addition, fromMarch 19th 2021, the rules are stricter.

 

 

 

As a result,those returning or visiting from all countries are now required to have a new coronavirus test certificate within 72 hours before departure.


Japanese citizens were able to enter Japan with only an inspection certificate, but from March 19th, it is required to present an inspection certificate as well as to carry a smartphone with a designated location information app installed, regardless of nationality. If you cannot show the corona negative certificate, you may not be allowed to land in Japan based on the Quarantine Law.

 

As a general rule, the certificate should be prepared in the format specified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and the following contents are required.

 

  • Name, passport number, nationality, date of birth, gender  

  • Test certification contents of the new coronavirus (test method, test result, sample collection date and time, test result determination date, test certificate issuance date)

  • All items of medical institution information (medical institution name, address, medical institution imprint or doctor's signature) are written in English)

 

Accepted sampling methods are one of the following:

 

  • Nasopharyngeal swab: Nasopharyngeal swab (see figure)

  • Saliva: Saliva

 

Accepted inspection method are one of the following:

 

  • Nucleic acid amplification test (RT-PCR method)

  • Nucleic acid amplification test (LAMP method)

  • Nucleic acid amplification test (TMA method)

  • Nucleic acid amplification test (TRC method)

  • Nucleic acid amplification test (Smart Amp method)

  • Nucleic acid amplification test (NEAR method)

  • Next-generation sequencing method

  • COVID-19 antigen quantitative test (CLEIA method)
